What is a triathlon?

But firstly, what is a triathlon? A triathlon is an endurance sporting event, which is designed to test both your fitness level and your mind. But don’t let that put you off! A triathlon consists of a swim leg, followed by a cycle leg, chased by a run leg. There are triathlon events available to suit all ages and abilities.  If you are new to swimming, cycling or running, you may wish to select a triathlon event designed for beginners which are shorter.

Whichever event you choose, make sure that it is one suited for your abilities, but still one that will test you. Once you complete your first triathlon, which is a major achievement in itself, you will be justly proud and no doubt looking forward to the next challenge......

Nutrition; for a healthy life; for a Triathlete

Believe it or not, but living as a triathlete will have you craving healthy, wholesome food. Plus some amazing news; you will need to eat more. Seems crazy??

When training for three sports, you will be expending lots of energy. You will increase your muscle mass and reduce fat stores. It takes more energy to move a muscle than fat, so even when just sitting, you will use more energy being leaner. You also don’t want to run out of glycogen stores in the middle of a workout. This would mean you wouldn’t have enough energy to work out as well as you planned.......

So what happens at a typical Australian Triathlon?
You are almost ready to enter transition and leave your bike and gear. Have a last think now about your ride. There is a steep beginning to the Port ride, so make sure your bike is in the correct gear before you leave it in transition. Also, decide whether you wish to leave you bike shoes on the pedals or not. Putting your feet in cycling shoes is tricky and most non-professionals don’t bother. Now you are ready to enter the transition, so secure your helmet on your head and enter transition.....
